Smoothing

For hair that fights you every morning.

KeraStraight and ASP Super Smooth take the frizz out and roughly halve your drying time, for three to five months — without making your hair poker straight unless that is what you asked for.

What it does, honestly

A smoothing treatment coats and seals the hair's outer layer, so the cuticle stops lifting every time the weather turns. What you notice is not "straight hair" — it is that your hair dries faster, behaves in the rain, and stays where you put it.

It fades rather than grows out. There is no line at the root at week twelve, which is why people who have had one tend to keep having them.

The two systems

KeraStraight Ultimate — from £205

The heavier-duty option, and the one to book if your hair is genuinely coarse, very curly or badly frizz-prone. Most smoothing, longest lasting, most money. Priced by length: short, medium, long, extra long.

ASP Super Smooth — from £150

Lighter and less expensive. It suits moderately frizzy or finer hair, and it is usually the right first treatment if you have never had one — you find out how your hair responds without committing to the full price.

The forty-eight hours afterwards

This is where treatments are won and lost. For two days: leave it down, leave it dry, and leave it alone. No ponytail, no clips, no tucking it behind your ears hard enough to crease it, and do not wash it.

After that, sulphate-free shampoo, every time. Sulphates strip the treatment out and will cost you a month or more of it. We will show you which of the products on the shelf are actually sulphate-free rather than just saying so on the front.

Booking it with colour

Colour first, smoothing second. If you want both, ring rather than booking online so the diary can hold enough time — it is a long afternoon, not two half-hours.

Questions

Before you book

How long does a keratin smoothing treatment last?
Three to five months on most hair, then it fades out gradually rather than growing out in a line. How long you get depends far more on aftercare than on the treatment — sulphate-free shampoo is the single biggest factor.
Will it make my hair poker straight?
Not unless you want it to. KeraStraight is a smoothing system, not a permanent straightener: it removes the frizz and cuts your drying time roughly in half while leaving your natural movement. If you want genuinely straight hair, say so at the consultation and it can be worked that way.
How much is keratin in Solihull?
KeraStraight Ultimate at Jiggs runs from £205 for short hair to £250 for extra long. ASP Super Smooth is the lighter, less expensive option, from £150. The aftercare blow-dry is included.
What is the difference between KeraStraight and ASP Super Smooth?
KeraStraight Ultimate is the heavier-duty system — more smoothing, longer lasting, more money. ASP Super Smooth is gentler and cheaper and suits hair that is only moderately frizzy or already fairly fine. If you have never had a smoothing treatment before, ASP is often the sensible first one.
Can I colour my hair at the same time?
Colour first, then smooth — in that order, and ideally with the colour done first in the same appointment or shortly before. A smoothing treatment applied over fresh colour can shift the tone slightly. Mention it when you book so the diary allows for both.
What is the aftercare?
Sulphate-free shampoo, and for the first 48 hours keep the hair down, dry and untied — no clips, no bobbles, no ponytail dents, and try not to get it wet. Those two days do most of the work of making it last.
